Independent Review on Homelessness Response in Queensland
The Queensland Government has commissioned an Independent Review of the homelessness system and services response (the review).
The review will provide an independent assessment of Queensland’s current response to homelessness and identify recommendations and opportunities on ways to improve how homelessness services are delivered in the future.
The review is being led by Independent Reviewer, Ms Rachel Hunter. A dedicated project team of technical specialists including analysts, strategy advisors and homelessness sector experts will be supporting the review process.
The review is an important step towards ending homelessness in Queensland.
The report summarises actions undertaken during Phase 1 of the Review. It provides a comprehensive analysis of the current state of homelessness, identifies gaps in the existing support systems, and includes recommendations for immediate actions to improve homelessness responses in the short term. These steps are paving the way for more comprehensive long-term reforms which will be outlined in the final report, to be released by January 2025.
Review Update June 2024
Quote from the Review Update: “Homelessness is not just about numbers or data points - it’s about people, their dignity, and their need for a safe and supportive place to call home. We are doing this review to improve the response to homelessness by designing a system that better considers our people and their stories to ensure homelessness is rare, brief, and non-recurring.”
Phase 2 next steps
Consultation for Phase 2 has commenced with targeted stakeholders and priority groups. The Review team will conduct in-depth conversations across Queensland to explore the findings and potential solutions in greater detail.
